Thanksgiving weekend coming up...

Today, I went to my first class (PHIL 57) at 9 for about twenty minutes and then left. Not much happening in that class now. Went to Shiva's place to be with her for a lil while before she had to leave for So Cal.

We went to the school bookstore because there was a 25%-off sale. Very few sweaters that we liked the design of. And most of them were still really expensive. So we ended up not buying anything. Probably will buy something at the end of the semester.

Anyway, light rail to the airport. Shared a few bits of chocolate on the way. Hm, different terminal this time. I got confused XD Airport line was short when we got there and gradually got longer. We said our goodbyes at the entrance to the line.

I was sad ): A weekend without Shiva. How unfamiliar D:

Anyway, I left. Took the light rail straight home. I had planned to go back to campus, but I decided against it. Mother was surprised that I went home so early XP Then she asked me if I had escorted Shiva to the airport. I said yes, and she just replied with "Geez, you two friends are just so nice and loyal to each other." Not sure how I feel about how she said that. I don't know what she might have been implying, if she was implying anything at all.

Been home all day since. Did some reading. Watched "My Soul to Take" (not very entertaining) and "Leaves of Grass" (very entertaining in the hillbilly/Edward Norton kinda way haha).

Just found out that I got into a class that I was waitlisting for. So I have a complete schedule for Spring 2011 :)

Monday/Wednesday
1030-1145 SOCI 163: Social Change (M Rokni)

Tuesday/Thursday
0900-1015 SOCI 105: Qualitative Research Methods (A Leisenring)
1030-1145 SOCI 104: Quantitative Research Methods (C Garcia)

Online
PHIL 134: Computers, Ethics and Society (E Sonnier)

Plan to Add
Tuesday/Thursday
1330-1445 SOCI 116: Global Society (C Cox)

My schedule's gonna be kinda weird next semester. Everything's mostly crammed into Tuesday and Thursday. Especially once I add SOCI 116 on the second day of classes, a Thursday. That's gonna be five classes. I'm hoping I'll be able to handle it because one's an online class and I'm thinking of writing my term paper for SOCI 116 over Winter Break.

Mm, so I'm gonna have three classes (104, 105 & 163) with Shiva XD She's gonna get sick and tired of me XP hahaha jk. How could she? I'm too awesome. But really, this reminds me of high school when people shared the majority of their classes with a few friends.

Anyway, I hope my/our schedule works out for the best. Especially with QTIP and Q&A.

Mm, so much work to do this weekend. Need to finish reading stuff. Write two papers and prepare for two presentations T-T ahhh..

Tomorrow's Thanksgiving. Yay, food. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving with your families or whomever.

Good night!

Twelfth Night... Steampunk-style...

So this past Saturday evening, Shiva, Brian, Marian, and I went to the University Theatre to watch the play Twelfth Night, steampunk-style :O

We, excluding Brian, walked in the pouring rain across campus XP I stepped in a deep puddle. Wet socks T-T Came a few minutes before the start of the show, but managed to get seats in the third row :D because a girl generously moved over for the four of us.

The play was entertaining. Though, much more physically vulgar than I'd like. A lot of pelvic thrusting and stuff. One of the things I like about Shakespearean plays is that the crude jokes remain crude jokes, not necessarily to be acted out. The way I see it is if you get the dirtiness of the joke, then you get it. If not, then oh well. I don't want physical gestures to tell me what I already understand -__-

Anyway, the acting was good. I liked Festes :P He was silly. He rapped and sang XD And all the characters danced. There were some scenes in which some characters walked or danced silently o_o I wasn't sure what to make of those. Interpretive dance? -shrug-

The scene where Olivia and Cesario/Viola kiss was not unexpected, yet it was. I thought the actresses would pretend to kiss, but they actually kissed :O

Um, what else did I think? Oh, Orsino looked gross >_> I think it was the combination of his messy hair and bristly beard. Did not look attractive to me. His posse, however, was cool haha. They were a bunch of female thugs (or well, one or two were playing guys).

Hm, since this was the last show, the actors and actresses seemed to have all their lines down. Didn't notice any moments where someone got stuck at a line. I think at one point someone almost rolled off the stage :O Instead, they managed to just kick a skull or something off the stage.

Oh haha, I recognized one or two of the actors from about two years ago, I think :P The guy who played Sebastian had played the role of a son in Death of a Salesman.

Anyway, that was fun. The four of us walked back across campus. Shiva tried to pull me into giant puddles. The Seventh Street Plaza had like three huge puddles. Ponds. Mini lakes XP I tricked Shiva into stepping into one XD Shiva and Brian play-fought, ran around and stuff.

Shiva, Marian, and I went to 7-11 to rent some movies. Went back to Shiva's. Made DiGiorno pizza and breadsticks. Breadsticks, awesome; pizza, meh, could have been better. Watched "Jonah Hex." I thought it was going to be a good movie 'cause I had read good things about it. But it was not that amazing -_- Waste of a dollar. Sorry. Thought it was gonna be about a guy on a bounty-hunting mission. It technically was, I guess, I dunno, but it wasn't exciting.

Went to sleep. The next day, Sunday, Shiva and I went to a queer-dance committee meeting. Ironed out some details. Date set for February 24 at 8PM. Anyone 18 and over can attend. Theme: Red/White/Black or suits of playing cards :)

After that, Shiva and I watched "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." It was entertaining, gross, exciting, and not as good as we had expected. But it was still worth the dollar haha. We plan to watch the second and third movie -nodnod- I think we'll learn more about the main character in the second movie. Also, she looks pretty cool XP Her character is troubled but likable. Though, a few of the things she does is blehhh -_- But Shiva and I agree that we both like the part where she tattoos a guy -nodnodnod- :P

So that was the weekend. Today was ok. Not much happened, except I found out that I don't have 100W on Wednesday, which means I can escort Shiva on the light rail to the airport :P Should probably not bring much stuff to school on Wednesday.

Have quite a bit of work to do this weekend. Two papers and lots of reading, it seems. Have to do the papers this weekend even though they're both due on the last two days of school. Why? Because I signed up to present on my papers next Monday and Tuesday to get them out of the way. Also, signing up early should encourage me to finish my papers early -nodnodnod- I hope so XD It would be sad if I didn't finish my papers this weekend.

Anything else? Anyone coming home to SJ this weekend? Though, I'm not sure how free I will be to hang out. I will try. Not going Black Friday shopping, sorry. Don't ask me to go to that. I don't want to buy anything nor risk my life for materialism XP haha. Hope no one dies on Friday >_>

Oh, just found out an ST student died yesterday. A junior cheerleader named Jordan. Alcohol was involved. Five students (two ST cheerleaders, three OG boys) crammed into a RAV4. The other four were injured (broken bones and such). I dunno what's gonna happen to the other cheerleader or how she's gonna deal with this because she was the one driving. Anyway, RIP Jordan. Even though I never met you, I know you'll be greatly missed.

People, don't drink and drive. Or rather, drink responsibly please.

Well, that's all I've got to say. Later!

My first formal-ish date....

So on Friday, I went to campus to hang out with Shiva. I went with her to our friends Killol and Phil's place. She had been hanging out with them, eating dinner with their friends. Killol kept offering food. I would have eaten them if Mother hadn't been stuffing me with food all day that day. A Double-Double with a strawberry shake and fries. And Mother made me eat her fries too. Then she made me eat porridge. Just way too much food for one day @_@

After hanging out Killol's and Phil's place, Maggie came by to pick Shiva and me up. And we hung out in Shiva's room, talking and catching up. It was good :) Learned a bit about what's been going on with some people, like Autumn. Ariane wanted to hang out a bit, but she was busy and Maggie had to go home ): And we didn't get to hang out yesterday.

Anyway, Shiva and I spent Friday night/Saturday morning watching "The Illusionist." That was a good movie. Quite a twist. I like Edward Norton, such a good actor. I wasn't expecting accents though o_o haha.

Saturday, Shiva and I just slept and talked for most of the day. Had an off moment in the afternoon ): Completely my fault.

Then we got up to get ready to go to dinner. I wore a dress shirt, slacks, a tie, and a jacket. Shiva wore a dress just for me :) She looked beautiful. We walked to PF Chang's. Shiva had made reservations for a booth at 7pm, but there were no booths available when we arrived. So we waited. As we waited, one of Shiva's former classmates, who was working there, stopped and talked to us about school and stuff.

Dinner itself was tasty. Vegetarian lettuce wraps, tea (something with peach and apricot), brown rice, coconut curry vegetables, and wok-seared lamb. Service was slow. Apparently, it took an hour and fifteen minutes for us to get our dessert and our check.

Dessert was a birthday chocolate cake in a shot glass that wasn't that bad. That was free. The other two desserts Shiva and I got were tiramisu and a cheesecake in shot glasses. Tasty tiramisu. Two dollars for such a small thing though @_@

Ahaha, when we were eating or waiting (I don't remember), Shiva's classmate passed by, tapped our table, and said, "You two are just so cute!" haha XD At first, I thought, "Wth? Did a stranger just say that to us?" but then I realized it was the friend who was working haha.

Oh, so when I was blowing out the candle on the chocolate cake in a shot glass, Shiva sneakily placed a gift on the table. So I opened it (with a bit of Shiva's help haha). Guess what she got me? XD It's pretty damn awesome. Wrapped in dark green tissue paper and a white ribbon, with a dried rose on top, was -trumpet music- Le Petit Prince! :D I loooove that book. I can't believe she remembered haha. Shiva's amazing :3 When I saw the book, apparently I looked shocked or surprised haha. I was! Ahh, I wanted to get the book so badly after I read it in Madame's class. Ahh, have I mentioned that Shiva is amazing? If I haven't, well, SHIVA IS AMAZING! :O

Anyway, lots of food. We had to take them home because we were stuffed.

Back at Shiva's, Sabrina (roommate) took a few pictures of us. We took a few more before we decided to go to bed.

Oh oh, also, when I walked into Shiva's room, I didn't notice anything. Until Shiva went to go open the window to let some air in. On the window, the words "HAPPY BIRTHDAY THUY" were written. Sabrina told us that Marian had come by and written it. And on Shiva's desk was a note and a gift. She had made Shiva and me a pair of I-don't-actually-know-what-you-call-them (keychain-like thingy?). And I don't know how to describe them. Maybe Shiva will comment to describe them for us haha. But they're images of me and her (though, the one of her doesn't really look like her because apparently Marian had to erase some lines, making the face look rounder). The one of me for her and the one of her for me. They're pretty awesome.

Mm, Shiva and I turned in early (midnight). Kinda wanted to watch a movie, but were too full and exhausted XD

Woke up early today. Didn't really get up until noon though. Strange morning -_- Exciting but depressing dream. Bicycles that fly higher as you pedal faster. Losing people. Or people dying or disappearing. An evil bathroom (like a room where you feel something malevolent in the air). Anyway, yeah, morning was kinda off. But Shiva and I got up and went outside. There was supposed to be a meeting for Shiva to go to, but it wasn't where it was supposed to be. So we went to 7-11 to rent "The Book of Eli." Watched that.

What a twist of an ending. Did not see that coming at all XD Made me want to watch the movie again haha. Maybe I'll watch it again sometime in the future. With what I know now, I would watch the movie with a different mindset. During the movie, I thought the action sequences were good, and the storyline ok. But the ending really WOW-ed me :D or rather us haha. We totally didn't predict the ending.

Anyway, yeah, this weekend was fun, thanks to Shiva :) What an amazing person I have in my life.... I'm sorry I ruined the weekend a lil with my stupidity >_< I'll make it up to you. And I'm also sad that I didn't get to do amazing things for you for your birthday T-T I will though -nodnodnod-

"Firework"

by Katy Perry... I'm totally loving this song. I like the music video that goes with it too, though I guess fireworks (or even sparklers) shooting from your chest is kinda strange/scary. What if you catch on fire? :O

Anyway, it has been a relatively good week. Been trying to get some work done early so that this weekend would be relatively free for fun stuff. Four-day weekends, yay!

Except yesterday, I had to stay home ): because my mom wanted me to rest and stuff. I wasn't feeling all that great. So I spent the day trying to watch movies online, but either the movies stopped working or I plan to watch them at a later time with Shiva :) I watched half of "The Book of Eli" before I decided I wanted to watch it with her. Lots of movies I wanna watch with her :P

So instead of that movie, I watched "Across the Universe" with her (I streamed it online, while she watched the movie file that she has on her drive). It was interesting. I thought I would like it more 'cause I've heard so many good things about it, but I just thought it was ok. I like the song covers haha (Yay, Beatles!).

Hmm, been watching a lot of music videos on YouTube. Don't know what else to do at home other than do homework. But my motivation is still steadily dwindling.

Oh, so this morning, I went to another doctor's appointment to talk to him about my blood test, which I had last Friday. Iron deficiency, I think. In viet, he just told my mom and me that I "lack metal" (literal translation). So yeah, it's safe to assume he means I'm low on iron. So now, my mom's gonna make me eat more red meat XP Meh. Apparently, I haven't been eating that much meat in the past couple of months, which probably explains why I have a slight iron deficiency now.

Hm, so now I have to take an iron supplement twice a day for the next two months. Then I have to get my blood tested again to see if my iron gets back to a normal level. Hope so.

So I'm feeling slightly less than average. But I don't think it's the deficiency. Just not feeling happy with my mom. I know she cares, and I don't even care that she says it's my fault I'm unhealthy because it's true. It's the tone of voice that makes me feel sick. How she raises her voice too. Angry and all. She doesn't need to be angry. Blah...

Oh and homework doesn't help either -_-

Anyway, so tonight and tomorrow, I'ma hopefully spend time with Shiva :3 Well, tonight, I might be hanging out with Maggie :) whom I haven't seen since the summerrrr. So yay. If not tonight, then tomorrow afternoon. And if not tonight, apparently, Shiva and I will eat sushi? And tomorrow night, dinner date for my birthday, yaayyy! ^_^ I haven't been on a date like that before haha.

Also need to write a letter to Brother x_x I've been forgetting. My mom had told him that I already sent him a letter when she visited him on Thursday -_- Now, I feel bad because he's gonna be waiting for my letter T-T I'll write him his letter tonight or tomorrow and send it as soon as possible.

I can't believe it's already been more than two months since he's been in jail. So fast. He's got three more months, hmm. Wonder how things will go when he gets out. He's gonna have to pay his debt to the state and stuff. I hope it works out.

What else? I dunno. Stuff. And stuff. I've been thinking and not thinking about things lately haha. Some deep future-thinking and planning. It's crazy to think that I'll be graduating in about one and a half years.

Registration's opening for next semester. I get to sign up on Wednesday at 18h00. I hope all the classes I want will still be open. I really want them. Five classes. Well, four, but I know I can add one later for sure. Four sociology courses, one philosophy. Might switch out a sociology course for a linguistics course. But I'm really trying to get three sociology classes with Shiva haha. We'd see each other sooo often XP

-crosses fingers- I want those classes....

Oh, and damn, I can't believe tuition's gonna go up to $4884 next Fall. It's going up 5% for Spring 2011, and another 10% for Fall 2011. It's friggin' nuts! I'm lucky I get financial aid, but seriously what the hell? I don't know how tuition raises help much. They're just making it harder for students to get into college and stay in college. I wonder how much of a salary cut the bourgeois administrators have to get XP

Bleh. Anyway, four more weeks of classes and a week of finals, yay. Six-ish weeks of winter break. Can't wait for this semester to be over. It's been fun with Shiva and friends. But school has not been that fun. But I guess I've learned a great deal in my Social Theory class :) It's taken over my life haha.

Anyway, that's all for now. Hope all is well with you.

First week of November 2010

So this week has been ok.

Shiva told people to sing Happy Birthday to me o_o; On Tuesday, she and Cathy sang to me hahaha. How awkward. On Wednesday, she got whoever came to QTIP to sing to me XP

On Wednesday, in QTIP, people played a game with a cereal box that had the top cut off. A player is supposed to try to pick up the box with his or her mouth without touching the ground with his or her arms or knees. Then Billy like surprised all of us with his amazing picking-up-cereal-box skills hahaha. There was like less than half an inch left. And he got it O_O Then Shiva cut it so that there was like less than a quarter inch or something, and he still got it. Amazing! haha.

Yesterday, in Q&A, Shiva led the meeting and explained Diwali. I helped demonstrate a dance <_< the garba... That was interesting XP There were sweets. Oh, Shiva taught people a simple version of the dance. That was chaotic but funny haha.

Mm, so yesterday morning, Shiva and I took the Social Theory midterm #2. She seems to be confident about her exam. I was and am not. Though, I guess I'm a lil bit more confident now, thanks to Shiva. But yesterday morning, after we left the classroom, I freaked out a bit on the inside. I so wasn't able to go to my next class T-T

Oh, anyway, earlier this week, I talked to Prof Cox (Shiva's SOCI 116 prof) about taking his course next semester. He said he would definitely add me if I wasn't able to enroll in the course. And damn, I totally should have talked to him at the beginning of the semester and be like "Can I do all the work this semester and get credit for it next semester?" haha XD That could have worked. Oh well.

Anyway, this weekend, I'm gonna try to get a bunch of work done. Like three papers. Maybe not XP More like a short paper due on Tuesday. And hopefully get a lot of my two research papers done.

Sometime next weekend, I will try to hang out with Maggie (weekend? We gotta celebrate your birthday). And also with Tuan and Josh (Saw 7!). And with Shiva. She wants to celebrate my birthday :3

OMG, why is it already November? :O And why is it hot in November? Wth? -_- Where are my favorite cold and rainy days?

Monday, November 1, 2010

Halloween fun....

What do I remember from the past week?

...

Last Monday and Tuesday are totally gone from memory.

Wednesday the 27th, I had a midterm in PHIL 57. It was more challenging than I expected XP I forgot something about truth tables and had to go back to fix it. I had thought I would be out after thirty minutes at most, but I ended up spending almost all the class time fixing truth tables -_- How sad.

For QTIP, there was supposed to be a movie (Hocus Pocus) and a potluck. I brought biscotti haha. And a can of Monster, which was Brother's. Mother had wanted to throw it out, but I thought it was a waste. So I brought it to give to someone. Gave it to Rahul. Spent the next fifteen minutes trying to open the can after the tab broke off. Used a pencil, a fork, a paintbrush, and other things. It wouldn't open. How strange. Eventually, Rahul and Shiva pounded a nail into the top of the can twice. White stuff came out o_o Then another guy finally realized that the can didn't have liquid in it; it was a Monster can that was converted into a cannister -_- I thought it was odd that I didn't hear any sloshing. I hadn't really heard of this, so the thought never crossed my mind. But anyway, we destroyed the can, trying to open it haha. Everyone wanted to open it up to see if anything was in there. At first, I refused because it was Brother's. But then I thought it was his fault for leaving the can in the fridge without telling me what it really was. We got it open, and it was empty, except for remnants of weed apparently. Threw away the can and stuff. Went back to the movie. Sadly, I only watched about the first ten minutes of it before I had to leave. Used to love that movie; I'll watch it again sometime on my own -nods-

On Thursday, hmm, my Philosophy of Religion class was talking about reincarnation. When I spoke, I mentioned that one of the writers, who was disputing the Christian notion of resurrection, made me think that her argument could support the higher probability of the existence of zombies than the possibility of Christian resurrection. hahaha zombies XD I can't believe I said that; I can't believe my prof liked my idea and noted it down in her book XD

In Q&A, we had a mummy contest/pageant. That was strange. Though we recycled all the toilet paper, I still think it was a waste. But it was fun, I guess XP Next meeting (this Thursday), Diwali meeting. Festival of Lights? Yeah, it will be interesting...

Mm, Friday morning, I went to the doctor for a check-up. It seems I may have thalassemia o_o Have to get my blood tested sometime this week, probably Friday. Fun.

Anyway, afterward, I went to campus to help Shiva make pumpkin pies for her party. That was fun. Making pumpkin pies is somewhat blargh because you want your food to be good and you don't really know if it will be good.

We also went to BevMo with Marian to buy Buttershot Scnhapps to make butterbeer. Shiva also bought a Japanese beer, Blood, and a mini Bailey's. Back to Shiva's place to finish the pies and prepare for the party.

People who showed up: Marian; Ly and Keith (They left way early); Jay and Veronica (They left early too but later than Ly and Keith); Crystal and Karishma (They left after Jay and Veronica, I think); Craig M; Alisa; Harrison; Jenn; JD (showed up for a lil while, but left to care for a friend at another party); Hannah, Craig R (a guy I hadn't met before), and Luis (They came late, coming off from a shift at Halloween Haunt). I think that was all of us.

I didn't drink much. Some butterbeer (It wasn't as good as last year's probably because the butterscotch schnapps was a different brand); some Bailey's mixed with vanilla extract or something; some Pina Colada that Jenn made. Also tried a bit of Craig M's Blackthorn (fermented apple cider?). That's about it. I didn't drink enough to even get tipsy. Why? Because I realize I do not enjoy alcohol all that much. So I meant when I said I won't drink much if at all at parties from now on. It's just better that way. Besides, even a lil bit of alcohol makes me sleepy XD

Hmm, Craig M had brought his iTouch. Listened to music, some dance and some rock/metal. Interesting mix on Pandora haha. Especially while playing Apples to Apples. So fun XD

Haha at one point, Craig M knocked over all my Skittles XP So sad. Helped him collect Skittles off the carpet. Drinks weren't spilled until the last hour or so of the party XD Well, actually, I guess Sabrina, Shiva's roommate, knocked over her cup of milk or tea or something on the couch before the party started :P But anyway, yeah, sticky.

It was raining outside at 5 in the morning when the last couple of people left. Harrison and Alisa escorted Jenn home because she had to walk over a block. Not safe in downtown, especially at that time -nodnod- Apparently, Harrison ended up sleeping in his SUV for the night XP because he promised Alisa he wouldn't drive home.

Shiva and I wiped down all the surfaces before we went to bed. We were sooo tired x_x

Saturday, some more cleaning. Went to Target with Marian and Sabrina. Back to Shiva's. Didn't really do much. Didn't have the motivation -_- Somehow, we went to bed at 2 in the morning. Sunday morning, I didn't want to get up, even though Shiva was telling me to get up, so that we could study. Got up too late. Mother called around noon, saying she was gonna stop by campus to pick me up /: No studying done this past weekend. My fault, sorry.

Today was all right. Went to PHIL 57 to see if the prof finished grading the midterms, but he hadn't. So I stayed in class, looking up classes I might want for next semester. I get to enroll on November 17, nine days after registration opens :O So early. Must be my prospective senior status. Sweet.

When I went to Shiva's place, we kinda compared classes we wanted. We're probably gonna take our research methods classes together. Maybe Criminology, but the choice of instructors and times suck -_- We'll see what will happen with that. I'm probably gonna take Global Society next semester, since Prof Cox will be teaching all three sections that are offered; well, hopefully, the Sociology department doesn't switch profs around -_-

Oh, and it seems that the majority of Sociology courses offered next semester will be Tuesday/Thursday classes D: So far the three classes I know I want to take for sure are Tuesday/Thursday; two of which are back-to-back. If I decide to take Criminology on TTh, then I'll have four classes back-to-back two days a week, and two free days. Could I survive that kind of schedule? I have no idea. Probably not. That's like six hours of classes with three fifteen-minute breaks in between.

I'm also planning to take an online Philosophy course about computers XD That would be awesome. I wanted to take that this semester, but the class filled up really quickly before I got a chance to sign up. It seems that the prof for the online course is much much better (more helpful) than the other prof who teaches in a classroom.

Also may take an elective instead of Criminology, which I need for my major. Elective for SJSU Studies (The Phil course about computers fulfills one of the electives here). Either Human Sexuality or Sound & Communication.

Or I could take another Sociology course for my major. Quite a list I have: Social Change, LGBT Studies, Socialization & Identity, Sexualities...

So, yeah, four or five classes next semester. If I feel crazy enough, I might go for six. But for now, I'm aiming for five. Can't wait to choose and enroll. Hope I get my first choices.

And whoa, I can't believe there's only about five weeks of classes left and then finals week. So faaast :O Still need to do two research papers and stuff. I mean, my philosophy of religion paper is due the week of Thanksgiving, and two weeks after, it's the last week of classes. Ahhh, I hope next semester doesn't go this fast because I wanna enjoy and savor (haha) Shiva's last semester at SJSU -nodnodnodnod- Happy and sad.....

Mm, oh so there's gonna be two long weekends this month, yay! Veterans' Day weekend and Thanksgiving weekend. Woot woot! haha just thought I'd let you know. Though, I guess I'll have a lot of work to do during Veterans' Day weekend /: But Thanksgiving weekend should be free of most work; I hope so.

Anyway, that's all for now. I'm tired, falling asleep. Should go to bed soon. Hope people vote tomorrow XP Ok, good night!
